Caste based discrimination in GHB Draw
Gujarat Housing Board allotment ‘Caste based’ AAP demands Gujarat Government’s Policy details
How can the draw to allot houses caste wise in series of same caste buildings: Ashish Khetan (AAP)
Bilkul News, Ahmedabad, April 23: Houses allotted to poor in a ‘draw’ has sparked a major blow to the Gujarat Government’s unfair and caste based style of functioning.
It was made evident when Ashish Khetan, AAP’s Leader and Candidate for LS elections from Delhi, today addressed a press conference about seemingly farcical GHB Draw for allotment of Houses to poor.
Addressing the media Ashish said “a whistle blower and our source of information has brought to our notice a shocking document which reveals the allotment of houses to poor and middle class urban poor by the Gujarat Government on a caste based structure”.
Thwarting the fact to be an ‘accident’ Ashish suspected that it was a pre-decided and planned strategy of allotment of houses, or else how do you justify the allotment in a draw that would give caste wise people’s accommodation allotment in each building.

Calling it an unconstitutional act and a serious matter of investigation on the policy and functioning of the Gujarat Government Ashish (who has been himself a star investigative journalist of India) Ashish on behalf of his party asked the media to raise the issue and seek the Gujarat Government’s parameter and policy norms regarding such allotment of houses to the urban poor.
Ashish said his party (AAP) and his leader (Kejriwal) had written several letters sought clarifications and replies to Narendra Modi the Gujarat Chief Minister in vain; they do no t wish to approach him. Instead, they want media to explore the truth with their own analyse (he furnished the soft copy to the media).
However, Khetan said our workers will approach most of the allottees of such houses and explain to them about the fact that they have been segregated and divided as per caste basis and were not clubbed with the General category of other recipient of the houses. Ashish said our workers would also request the occupants to vehemently protest and refuse to accept such houses which distinct people from people on the basis of caste and creed.
Meanwhile, the land grabbing from farmers by the state government, favouring of top shot industrialists and grazing land acquisition are likely to once again haunt Modi government in this ‘hot’ season of summer and pre-Lok Sabha phase.
As is apparent from the data furnished by Ashish (of the state government) the government seems to have allotted houses based on cast, so that sequentially entire towers/apartments are allotted to SCs, STs, OBCs and General category.
When Ashish was asked could it be a mistake, he replied, “It is totally impossible that a random draw would yield names of applicants in cast based sequence. Such cast based discriminatory process of draw/allotment is very dangerous and has potential to harm the very fabric of inter-cast unity. As a matter of fact, such results in a draw itself raise doubts whether at all any draw was carried out. Nevertheless, we demand that the state government clarify it’s stand on such discriminatory and divisive manner of draw/allotment of houses to the poor based on their cast/category”.
