Gandhinagar: Chief minister Narendra Modi chose to keep mum and maintain a low profile on the day his party was decimated in Karnataka. He did not attend the weekly cabinet meeting and even refused to comment on the poll outcome citing a dental problem.
Modi and the government spokesperson’s Twitter accounts too remained inactive with no word on the Karnataka debacle. With Modi absent, it was for the first time that the cabinet meet was chaired by finance minister Nitin Patel. Modi also cancelled his other programs of the day, including a national workshop on ‘Securing Livelihoods for Sustainable Forest Management’ in Gandhinagar. He kept away from the BJP’s national parliamentary board meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in New Delhi. Sources in the chief minister’s office (CMO) claimed he stayed home, nursing a painful tooth.
Meanwhile, the victory has given Congress leaders a chance to take potshots at Modi. Party president Arjun Modhwadia and leader of opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela linked BJP’s failure in Karnataka to Modi
